The Skin I Am Shedding: Identity, Growth & Becoming Your True Self

The Skin I Am Shedding 🌿

By Mkhululi

There comes a moment in your journey when you realize something profound:

You are not trying to become someone new.

You are learning to release who you no longer are.

For a long time, I believed growth meant addition.
More knowledge.
More power.
More discipline.
More success.

But recently, something deeper has been unfolding within me.

Growth is not addition.

It is shedding.

🐍 The Identities We Wear

From the moment we enter this world, identities are handed to us.

“The strong one.”
“The quiet one.”
“The misunderstood one.”
“The one who must make it.”

Some identities protect us. Some help us survive. Some become masks we wear so well that we forget we are wearing them.

But an identity is simply a story repeated long enough.

A snake sheds its skin. A tree sheds its leaves. Even the ocean never holds the same wave twice. 🌊

Here at VAH AFRIKA, we understand that growth is not about performing strength. It is about embodying truth.

🛡 Identity as Survival

When I look back, I see versions of myself built from necessity.

Independence formed from standing alone.
Strength developed because softness had no room.
Ambition fueled by the need to prove something.

The armor that once saved you can eventually suffocate you.

Shedding is gratitude with evolution.

🌞 The Higher Self Is Not Above You

What if the higher self is simply you without unnecessary layers?

Not more.
Less.

Less performance. Less fear. Less attachment to outdated stories.

That is the inner work we speak about at VAH AFRIKA — remembering essence rather than chasing elevation.

🌿 Loving Yourself While Letting Go

You cannot shed in self-hatred. You must shed in self-love.

Every version of you did the best it could with the awareness it had.

“When the snake outgrows its skin, it does not curse the old one — it leaves it behind and continues its path.”

🌊 What I Am Learning

Maybe discomfort is space being created.

Maybe the tension is old skin becoming too tight.

I am not escaping myself. I am releasing what no longer fits.

I am Mkhululi. And I am not changing. I am remembering. 🌿✨
